Cookies Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

This Cookies Policy explains which cookies and similar technologies, such as local storage, are used on yowjourney.com and why. Local storage keeps data on your device but, unlike cookies, is not sent to the server with each request.

1. Cookies and Storage We Use

The cookies and storage used when you visit yowjourney.com fall into three categories:

  • Necessary: used always; they make the site's own features work (interface language, saved places) and remember your choice in the cookie banner
  • Analytics (Google Analytics): used by default, until you click "Reject" in the cookie banner (see section 3)
  • GetYourGuide widget: used by default, until you click "Reject" in the cookie banner (see section 3)

The legal bases for the related processing are described in section 2 of our Privacy Policy, and who receives the data in section 5.

1.1 Necessary

1.2 Analytics (Google Analytics)

We do not use Google Analytics advertising features: advertising storage and ad personalization signals are switched off.

1.3 GetYourGuide Widget

These cookies are set when the GetYourGuide widget loads (see section 2). They are stored on GetYourGuide's domains, so we cannot delete them; you can delete them in your browser settings (see section 4).

2. Third-Party Services

The services that deliver content on our pages β€” map tiles (OpenFreeMap; map data Β© OpenStreetMap contributors), images (Sanity CDN) and weather (Open-Meteo) β€” do not set cookies. What they receive is described in section 5 of our Privacy Policy.

Google Analytics and the GetYourGuide widget do set cookies; they are listed in section 1. What Google and GetYourGuide receive is described in section 5 of our Privacy Policy. Google explains how it uses data from sites that use its services.

Pages about countries, regions, islands, cities and some places, as well as travel articles, have a "Things to do" block: a widget with tours from GetYourGuide, loaded from widget.getyourguide.com, and a link to GetYourGuide. Some travel articles also link individual GetYourGuide tours and tickets in their text. The widget and these links are partner (affiliate) links, labelled "Paid links" on the page. If you follow them, getyourguide.com opens, and GetYourGuide's own cookie and privacy policies apply there.

The site links to our pages on Telegram and Instagram, to map apps (Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze) for directions, and to official websites. These sites receive nothing from you until you click a link; after that, their own cookie and privacy policies apply. No social media tracking pixels or embedded social media content are used.

3. Cookie Banner and Your Choice

On your first visit, the site shows a cookie banner. It says that we use cookies for analytics (Google Analytics) and to show tours from GetYourGuide. It also links to this Cookies Policy and has two buttons: "OK" and "Reject".

By default, Google Analytics and the GetYourGuide widget work from the first page you open, before you choose anything in the banner, and keep working until you click "Reject". Clicking "OK" leaves them on. Necessary cookies and storage (section 1.1) are used in either case.

If you click "Reject":

  • Google Analytics is no longer loaded. If it is already running on the open page, it is stopped, and its _ga and _ga_<ID> cookies on yowjourney.com are deleted
  • The GetYourGuide widget is not shown; links to GetYourGuide (under the block and in article texts) stay on the page
  • Cookies that GetYourGuide has already set on getyourguide.com cannot be deleted by us; you can delete them in your browser settings (see section 4)

Your choice ("OK" or "Reject") is stored in the yow_consent cookie for 12 months. You can change it at any time with the link at the bottom of every page except the full-screen map, which opens the banner again.

4. Managing Cookies and Site Data

You can view and delete cookies and other site data in your browser settings. Cookies that GetYourGuide has set on getyourguide.com can be deleted there too.

Note: clearing this site's data deletes the cookies and local storage on yowjourney.com listed above, including your saved favorites, visited places (with notes and ratings) and trip. We do not have a copy of them, so they cannot be restored. It also deletes yow_consent: the banner appears again, and Google Analytics and the GetYourGuide widget work by default until you click "Reject". If you block cookies and site data for yowjourney.com, the site may not be able to save your favorites, visited places and trip.

5. Policy Updates

We may update this Cookies Policy. The new version is published on this page, and the "Last updated" date at the top is changed.
