Hverir Geothermal Area

Hverir Geothermal Area

About the place

Hverir is a highly active geothermal area located at the base of Namafjall mountain in northern Iceland. The surface is colored in intense shades of orange, red, and yellow due to sulfur and mineral deposits. Boiling mud pots and steaming vents are scattered across the area, releasing superheated steam with a deep roar. The lack of vegetation and strong sulfur smell create a harsh and otherworldly atmosphere. Marked paths are essential here, as the ground can be dangerously hot just beneath the surface.
