Santa Pau village lies amid extinct volcanoes, creating a dramatic and otherworldly landscape. The black volcanic soil and solidified lava flows are interspersed with dense beech forests of Fageda d’en Jordà. The medieval streets and the triangular main square invite visitors to explore the historic village center. Baronial castle walls host nesting birds, adding life to the ancient stone structures. Nearby volcanic craters such as Croscat and Santa Margarida, along with visitor centers, make hiking and exploring convenient and immersive.
