Luna Castle

About the place
Luna Castle is a formidable defensive structure dating from the 13th to 15th centuries, built of granite on a strategic elevation. The fortress features a massive keep (tower of homage), multiple lines of battlemented walls, and a system of drawbridges. The interior architecture is notable for its Gothic vaults and halls that reflect the era of Álvaro de Luna, for whom the castle is named. Given its position on the mountain ridge, the castle's ramparts offer panoramic views over the La Raya plains and into Portuguese territory. The site is a National Monument of Spain and a prime example of frontier military engineering.
