A Pobra de Trives

A Pobra de Trives is the main town of the Trives highlands in eastern Ourense, set among the mountains that drop into the Ribeira Sacra wine country. The Val do Navea below it was named Galicia's first Protected Landscape, and the river has cut one of the more dramatic gorges on the Iberian Peninsula. The town's standout sight is recent: the Penas de Rome viewpoint, opened in 2023, a platform shaped like a honeycomb with a glass floor that hangs over the valley and looks across to the Penas de Rome rock formation. It's reached easily off the OU-536 just before Trives, with parking nearby. Use the town as a base for the gorge, the highlands and the Ribeira Sacra.
