Penas do Romel Viewpoint

About the place

Peñas do Romel is a modern viewpoint built in 2023 on the edge of the Navea ravine, in the parish of Navea in A Pobra de Trives, province of Ourense. Its standout feature is a hexagonal, honeycomb-shaped platform with a glass floor that lets you look straight down into the gorge, a design that references the long beekeeping tradition of these mountains. From the railing the wooded slopes drop away to the Navea river far below, framing the rock outcrops the spot is named after. It overlooks the Val do Navea, which in 2020 became the first area in Galicia to be declared a Protected Landscape. The viewpoint sits just off the OU-536 road near Trives and has parking close by, so it takes only a short walk to reach the platform.
