Beas de Guadix

Beas de Guadix lies about 10 km from Guadix, on the river Alhama at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, in a stretch of reddish badlands carved by water and wind. Like much of the Guadix area — famous as Europe's capital of cave dwellings — the village has houses cut into the earth, which hold a steady temperature through the hot summers and cold winters. The reason most people come is the Mirador del Fin del Mundo: a promontory you reach on foot, about a kilometre uphill from the village, with a sweeping view that makes the scale of the erosion clear. It's a short stop, best paired with the wider Guadix and Gorafe desert area.
