What makes it special
On a clear day Teide rises on the far skyline, and it looks smaller than it is: distance shrinks the island's highest peak to a modest cone above the ridges. When cloud settles over the north, the view closes and the forest takes over.
The viewpoint belongs to the laurel forest as much as to the mountain. A board beside it introduces the forest birds of the laurisilva and carries emergency numbers to call for an injured bird. A few steps on, another board covers the Bosque de los Enigmas trail through the wooded hills of the north.
Good to know
- There are no toilets and no drinking water at the viewpoint or nearby, so bring water with you.
- Teide shows only when the sky is clear; cloud can hide it completely.
- A board on the laurel-forest birds lists emergency numbers to call if you find an injured bird.
- A board for the Bosque de los Enigmas trail stands beside the viewpoint, if you want to walk on into the forest.
Getting there
The car park sits about 10 m from the viewpoint, with a second one about 117 m away, so once you have parked you are already there. Coming by bus, get off at Las Casas, about 680 m away in a straight line, and walk the rest.
Best time to visit
Best: a clear day, when Teide stands on the skyline.
Avoid: days when low cloud sits over the northern hills.
The north of Tenerife catches the trade-wind cloud, and when it settles the view of Teide disappears.
