Calo des Moro

Small golden-sand cove on the Sant Antoni seafront, with the sunset straight out over the sea

Caló des Moro is a small urban beach of fine golden sand in Sant Antoni de Portmany, on the west coast of Ibiza. A long seafront promenade runs past it, and cafés, restaurants and hotels stand directly behind the sand. The beach takes the sun all day and looks out towards the sunset, which draws a crowd every evening. In summer it is as lively as the rest of the resort.

What makes it special

The sunset. In the evening people arrive with no plan beyond watching the sun go down into the sea in front of the beach, and the cafés behind the sand fill at the same hour.

The cove itself is a short strip of fine golden sand with a view out over the water, and the swimming is good. Because the promenade carries on along the coast past it, Caló des Moro works as well for a walk on a sunny winter day as for a swim in summer, when the whole seafront is as lively as anywhere on Ibiza.

Good to know

  • Jellyfish sometimes drift into the cove. Look at the water before you go in.
  • There are no public toilets or drinking water at the beach, and none nearby. Bring water; cafés and restaurants line the promenade.
  • The sand is in sun all day. Bring your own shade in summer.
  • The beach is small and the evening crowd comes for the sunset. Arrive before it if you want a place on the sand.

Getting there

Caló des Moro is part of the Sant Antoni seafront, so the last stretch is on foot along the promenade, with hotels and restaurants on one side and the sea on the other.

By car, there are two car parks close by, about 70 m and 150 m from the beach in a straight line. By bus, the nearest stop is H. Abrat, about 170 m away.

Best time to visit

Best: late afternoon into sunset, or a sunny winter day for a walk along the promenade.

Avoid: midday in July and August if you want space on the sand.

The beach looks out towards the sunset and fills for it in the evening, and in high summer the whole resort is busy, while on a clear winter day the coast walk has the promenade and the light to itself.
