Beaches

Most of these beaches are in Spain, and the Balearics and Canaries hold the largest groups: Menorca, Ibiza and Tenerife account for a hundred between them. Valencia's coast adds another thirty-six, Madeira and the Azores nine. Iceland's twenty-eight are a different sort of shore — black sand, seals, drifting icebergs, cold water. Many of the smaller coves have no facilities, and reaching one means a steep path, a hike or a boat.
