Every place in this collection is on Tenerife, and half of them stand in the Las Cañadas caldera below Mount Teide: the wind-worn pillars of Roques de García, the blue-green rock of Los Azulejos, the pale pumice slopes of Minas de San José. The rest are spread round the island, from the eroded towers of Paisaje Lunar to the sea cliffs of Los Gigantes, the islet off Garachico and the Roque de Taborno in the Anaga hills. In the caldera there is little shade, and the air turns cold once the sun drops.
