Hot Springs

Hot Springs

Most are plain pools built by farmers or villagers, free or by donation; the Blue Lagoon and Krauma are the ticketed exceptions. Thirty-six of the thirty-eight are in Iceland, concentrated in the Westfjords, South Iceland and the northeast, and two are in Spain. Several are viewing sites rather than baths — Hverir, Seltún and Grjótagjá are for looking, and the water in them runs scalding. The highland sites, among them Landmannalaugar, Víti and Hveradalir, need a 4x4 on F-roads and are reachable only in summer.
