Vadlaheidi Hot Springs
About the place
One of Iceland's stranger hot springs was made by mistake. Boring the Vaðlaheiði road tunnel in 2014 broke into a geothermal aquifer of roughly 46°C, and part of that flow now surfaces on the Eyjafjörður hillside near Halland. It spills over a low cliff as a warm cascade into hand-built stone pools, with a view across the fjord to Akureyri. The spot stays unofficial and unmarked, with no facilities, so use it with care.
