Akureyri Botanical Garden

About the place

The Lystigarðurinn sits on a slope above Eyjafjörður in the middle of Akureyri, one of the northernmost botanical gardens on Earth. It opened in 1912 on the initiative of local women and now grows almost every plant native to Iceland alongside thousands of species from mountain climates worldwide. Gravel paths pass flowerbeds, ponds and mature trees to the LYST café, and admission is free.
