Grímseyjarviti Lighthouse
About the place
Grímseyjarviti marks the southern tip of Grímsey, the only piece of Iceland the Arctic Circle touches. The working light stands above sheer basalt where the North Atlantic meets the Greenland Sea. The path out from the village passes some of the island's best seabird ground — puffin burrows on the grassy slopes, fulmars and kittiwakes off the cliffs. It is a short, exposed walk to one of Iceland's quietest edges.
