Digranes Lighthouse
About the place
A plain concrete tower built in the 1940s and long since automated, Digranes stands on a low, rocky headland past Bakkafjörður, one of the most isolated corners of northeast Iceland. You reach it on foot from the village, past the abandoned farm of Steintún and along a shore of tundra and dark rock that turns deep red in autumn. The reward is the solitude and the seabirds on the cliffs, far from any crowd.
