Storikarl Sea Stack

Storikarl Sea Stack

About the place

Stórikarl — 'the Big Old Man' — is a sea stack at the tip of the Langanes peninsula in northeast Iceland, just off the Skoruvíkurbjarg cliffs. Its crown is packed with nesting northern gannets, one of Iceland's largest colonies, while guillemots, razorbills and puffins hold the nearby ledges. A steel platform, Járnkarlinn, reaches past the cliff edge on an open grid deck for a view straight down onto them. Getting here means a long, rough drive to the end of the road.
