Fontur Lighthouse

About the place
The Fontur Lighthouse stands atop sheer 50-meter cliffs plunging into the open ocean. The surrounding landscape is quiet and dramatic, with endless waves and the cries of seabirds. The area is treeless, covered only with moss and lichens, creating an alien landscape. One of Iceland’s most unusual lighthouses, it combines isolation with striking architecture. Access involves a journey across deserted highlands, where only sheep and seabird colonies are encountered. Visitors may spot puffins and gannets while approaching the lighthouse.
