Saudanesviti Lighthouse

Saudanesviti Lighthouse

About the place

Sauðanesviti stands on a low headland where the Tröllaskagi mountains drop to the sea, just outside Siglufjörður on Iceland's north coast. Built in the 1930s, the square orange tower still guides boats along the coast, though it is closed to visitors. It first appears far below from a bend on the main road; a short, steep gravel track then drops to the point, where old iron machinery rusts beside the light.
