Akureyri Museum

The Akureyri Museum sits in a 1930s villa with a garden on the southern edge of the old town. Opened in 1963, it gathers the ordinary things that built a northern town — tools, clothing, household objects and maps of Iceland going back centuries. It covers Akureyri and the Eyjafjörður region without trying to be a grand national museum. The garden holds a small wooden church from 1846 and the childhood home of the writer known as Nonni; one ticket also covers outlying sites like the Laufás turf farm.
