Sigurgeir's Bird Museum

Sigurgeir's Bird Museum stands on a lakeside farm on the northwest shore of Mývatn, built around one man's lifelong collection of birds and eggs. The low turf-house building holds mounts of nearly every species that nests in Iceland, plus hundreds of eggs and old gear once used to fish and gather on the lake. A glass floor at the entrance sits over the water, so the lake shows through beneath your feet. It is a compact, all-weather stop that explains the birdlife out on Mývatn.
