Dimmuborgir Lava Field

Dimmuborgir is a field of strange lava pillars, arches and caverns on the eastern shore of Lake Mývatn in North Iceland. The formations were left standing when a lava lake drained away and its crust collapsed. Marked paths of different lengths loop through them, the longest reaching the Kirkjan, a tall lava arch shaped like a church. In local folklore it is the home of the Yule Lads.
