Hofdi

Höfði is a wooded promontory on the east shore of Lake Mývatn and one of the few places in Iceland where you can walk through real forest. Easy paths wind through birch down to the water, where the lava pillars of Klasar and Kálfastrandarstrípar rise straight from the lake and birds gather in the sheltered coves. Entry is free and the loop takes about an hour — a green, gentle contrast to the raw volcanic country around the rest of the lake.
