Skutustadagigar

About the place
Skutustadagigar are a unique group of pseudocraters on the southern shore of Lake Myvatn. They formed about 2300 years ago when lava flowed over wet ground, causing steam explosions that broke the surface. Unlike true volcanoes, the craters have no vent connecting to a magma chamber. The maintained circular trail leads around and up the grass-covered cones, offering panoramic views of the lake and birdlife. Scientists often study Skutustadagigar as a model for similar structures on Mars.
