Viti Crater
About the place
Viti crater contains a deep, opaque lake with a striking turquoise color. The blue water contrasts with the reddish-brown crater edges and patches of green moss. The surrounding volcanic terrain creates an otherworldly landscape. Hiking along the crater rim takes 20–30 minutes and offers panoramic views of Krafla’s geothermal area. The soil retains heat from recent eruptions, and the air carries the scent of sulfur, reminding visitors of the nearby magma.
