Blue Lake
About the place
Blue Lake occupies a crater formed by explosive volcanic activity. The unusual blue color is caused by minerals and fine sediments in the water. The lake contrasts sharply with the surrounding dark volcanic terrain. Access is usually part of a longer hike across the Askja area. The site is often visited together with nearby geothermal features.
