Hraunsvatn Lake
About the place
Hraunsvatn is a quiet mountain lake in a high side-valley of Öxnadalur, directly beneath Hraundrangi — the 1,075-metre spire that rises above the Ring Road west of Akureyri. Reaching it means a real hike of a few hours from an abandoned farm, up green slopes to wide valley views before the water finally appears. It draws fit walkers and anglers with dramatic scenery and, usually, near-total quiet.
