Hverir Geothermal Area

Hverir is a high-temperature geothermal area at the foot of Namafjall mountain. The landscape is dominated by enormous fumaroles surrounded by stones and bubbling mud pots. The soil is colored in vivid shades of orange, red, gray, and blue, creating a planetary feel. Steam and water from deep sources reach temperatures of up to 200°C. Nothing grows here due to the high acidity, and the strong smell of hydrogen sulfide permeates everything.
