Laugarvellir Hot Natural Pot

About the place

A warm waterfall you can stand under is rare anywhere, and Laugarvellir is Iceland's version. Geothermal water pours over a low stone ledge into a shallow, rock-floored pool at roughly 38–40°C — a hot shower and a soak at once, with a few cooler pools just below for a hot-and-cold routine. It lies deep in the eastern highlands past the Kárahnjúkar dam, where the paved road ends and a rough F-road begins. Reaching it is the hard part; the bathe is the reward.
