Vestdalsfossar

Vestdalsfossar is a series of waterfalls climbing the Vestdalur valley above the painted houses of Seyðisfjörður, in East Iceland. A path follows the river past one cascade after another, up to Vestdalsvatn lake and the Vestdalur nature reserve. It was a mail and trading trail into the last century. In 2004, near the lake, hikers uncovered the grave of a settlement-age woman buried with hundreds of glass beads. The falls make a rewarding half-day from town.
