Levadas

All eight are on Madeira, in Portugal. Most follow their channel through laurel forest, where the rock stays wet and mossy. Tunnels are common: Caldeirão Verde has three, and the Moinho–Nova loop passes behind a waterfall cut into the cliff. Difficulty is not uniform. Balcões is short and popular, Furado is flat, and the Ribeira da Janela route has steep sections and damp rock walls that suit experienced hikers only.
