Canelobre Caves

Canelobre Caves

About the place

Canelobre Caves are located on the slope of Cabezón de Oro at 700 meters above sea level. The surrounding landscape is quiet and rugged, with sheer cliffs and views of the Mediterranean Sea. The main hall’s vaulted ceiling reaches about 70 meters, with stalactites resembling enormous candelabras. During the Spanish Civil War, a tunnel was carved for access, and the caves served as a workshop for aircraft engines. The site combines natural grandeur with historical and cultural significance, and the hall’s acoustics allow for regular musical performances, transforming the wild cave into an exquisite opera space.
