Formosa Beach

About the place

Formosa Beach is the largest public beach area in Madeira, located west of Funchal city center in the parish of São Martinho. The beach consists of four sections and combines black volcanic sand with pebbles. Facilities include lifeguard service, showers, bars, a playground, changing rooms, and parking. The beach also has a pedestrian promenade connecting it with the Lido area and Câmara de Lobos. In 2011, the beach received an accessibility certificate for people with reduced mobility — featuring adapted water access, restrooms, and a first aid station.
