Iznajar

About the place
The village of Iznajar is a classic example of a Pueblos Blancos settlement, characterized by its steep whitewashed streets and historical layers. At the highest point stands the Castle of Hisn Ashar, an eighth-century fortress that gives the town its name and offers commanding views of the Genil river valley. The town is particularly renowned for the Patio de las Comedias, a narrow square filled with hundreds of blue flowerpots and vibrant geraniums. Below the medieval center, the Embalse de Iznajar creates a coastal atmosphere in the middle of the olive groves, featuring an inland beach and water sports facilities. This unique geography, where the ancient stone architecture meets the expansive artificial lake, makes it one of the most photographed locations in southern Spain.
