Juan Evora Viewpoint

Teide fills the skyline straight across the lava field, and you have it in front of you the moment you step out of the car. The ground between is dark, broken lava. The trails that start beside the viewpoint lead out into it, so the stop works two ways: a pause on the drive across Las Cañadas, or the start of a longer walk.

Next to the car park, an old house now holds a small museum telling the story of Juan Évora, with a tourist information office beside it. The view comes with a name and a history attached.

• The car park is small and spaces run out; a separate bay alongside is for buses.
• Toilets stand about 66 m from the viewpoint and are wheelchair accessible.
• There is no drinking water nearby — fill up before you drive up.
• Round-the-clock access applies to the viewpoint; the museum and information office keep their own opening times.
• Bring a warm layer: the air up here cools fast once the sun drops.

Coming by car, you park right beside the viewpoint, with the museum and information office alongside, so there is no walk in at all. By bus, the Boca Tauce stop is about 320 m away in a straight line, with an information board near it. A signpost stands by the viewpoint where the walking trails into the lava field begin.

Best: late afternoon. The viewpoint looks at Teide from the south-west, so the low sun comes from behind you and lights the face of the mountain.

Avoid: the middle of a summer day if you plan to walk. The lava field is bare rock with no shade, and the sun is strong at this height. In winter, snow and ice can reach the road across Las Cañadas.
