Naveta de Biniac is the western of two prehistoric navetas at Biniac, on the edge of L'Argentina in the municipality of Alaior, Menorca. A naveta is a collective tomb built of large dry-stone blocks, named for its shape, which recalls an upturned boat; the type belongs to Menorca's Bronze Age and is found almost nowhere else. The Biniac monument is poorly preserved and partly collapsed, but its inner burial chamber survives. It is protected as cultural property.

What makes it special
The naveta is half-ruined, its walls slumped, yet the burial chamber at its heart still stands and you can go inside. In there the size and weight of the stones stop being an abstraction: blocks like these were raised and fitted without mortar by the island's Bronze Age builders to hold the dead of a whole community.
The site is small and the naveta is all that remains, so treat it as a stop on a longer day. It pairs with its neighbour, the eastern naveta (Naveta de Biniac Oriental), and with Lloc de Menorca, the animal park round the corner, which makes it an easy visit with children.
Good to know
- The monument is partly collapsed and nothing else stands on the site; the reason to come is the surviving inner chamber.
- See it together with the eastern naveta (Naveta de Biniac Oriental), the other half of the Biniac pair.
- The nearest car parks belong to Lloc de Menorca and are for its customers only.
- The nearest toilets are about 640 m away; a water point stands about 170 m away.
Getting there
The naveta stands on the edge of L'Argentina, in the municipality of Alaior, with Lloc de Menorca, the animal park, round the corner.
The closest bus stop, L'Argentina, is about 635 m away in a straight line, so the walk on the ground runs at least that far. Drivers will find the nearest car park at Lloc de Menorca, about 640 m away, but it is meant for the park's customers; a second customers-only car park lies about 1,050 m away. An information board stands about 770 m from the monument.
Best time to visit
Best: morning or late afternoon, when the sun sits low.
Avoid: the middle of a summer day.
Low, side-on light brings out the joints between the big dry-stone blocks, while Menorca's summer midday sun is hard going at any open-air monument.
Access & restrictions
The naveta is a protected heritage monument. Do not climb on the walls or on the collapsed sections, and leave every stone where it lies: the structure is dry-stone, held together only by its own weight, and the damaged parts are the most fragile.
