Nueva Tabarca

About the place
Nueva Tabarca is a small island in the Mediterranean Sea, situated near the Costa Blanca coast. In the 18th century, the island was fortified by order of King Charles III to defend against pirates and was settled by captives from the Tunisian Tabarka, which gave the island its current name. The island is surrounded by Spain's first Marine Reserve, making it a perfect spot for snorkeling due to its abundant underwater flora and fauna. Visitors, while walking through the historic center, can observe ancient defensive walls, churches, and a lighthouse. The absence of cars and the preserved atmosphere of a fishing village create a unique charm here, attracting history buffs and those seeking peaceful beach days.
