Palacio Olivar

Family manor house on Ciutadella's cathedral square, its rooms kept with furniture, paintings, photographs and dresses.

What makes it special

Step in from the bright cathedral square and the rooms are cool, light and spacious. The family has kept everything as it was, so the framed paintings, the furniture, the photographs and even the dresses sit together in the rooms where they belong. In the salons, watch for the frieze along the walls.

The route runs through the main rooms and halls and then down into the basements. It is a small house, and about half an hour is enough to walk round it without hurrying. What stays with you is the view behind a facade on one of Ciutadella's main squares: the house as a family actually lived in it.

Good to know

  • English information comes through an app you scan at the house, so bring your phone.
  • The house is small: a full visit takes about 30 minutes.
  • The visit goes down into the basements as well as through the salons and halls.
  • There is a toilet inside, and free public toilets stand about 145 m away in a straight line.

Best time to visit

Best: a weekday, when the house is open through the afternoon, and especially a hot summer day.

The rooms stay cool and light when the square outside is baking, and a half-hour visit fits easily around a walk through the old town.
