Sax Castle

Sax Castle

About the place

Sax Castle is a medieval fortress perched on a narrow limestone ridge about five hundred meters above sea level. Its elevated position allowed control over routes crossing the Vinalopo valley. The two main towers are linked by defensive walls following the contours of the rock. The exposed setting emphasizes the interaction between geology and military architecture. Today the castle remains one of the most striking hilltop fortresses in Alicante province.
