Santa Maria Magdalena Sanctuary

About the place
Santa Maria Magdalena Sanctuary sits atop La Mola hill, offering a striking landmark visible from afar. The construction lasted nearly 30 years (1918–1946), resulting in a masterpiece of Valencian modernism. Its façade resembles a sand castle, with two 25-meter towers and sinuous lines blending with the white limestone hills. The surrounding landscape features dry hills, sparse vegetation, and pale soils, emphasizing the sanctuary’s isolation and grandeur. Local materials such as river stones, natural rock, and ceramics were used throughout, and inside the temple stands a rare marble organ, highlighting its architectural and artistic significance.
