Bastió de sa Font is a 17th-century bastion in Ciutadella, on the island of Menorca, protected as a cultural property. It is one of the few surviving sections of the walls that once enclosed the town. The bastion was home to Ciutadella's municipal museum and its archaeological collection, which has since moved to Can Saura in the historic centre, near the cathedral. Its ramparts give a panorama over the port and the city.

What makes it special
Stand on the ramparts and the port of Ciutadella opens out below, with the roofs of the city running back from the water. That view is the reason to climb up.
The bastion went up in the 17th century as part of the town's defences, and the angled stone walls still read plainly as military architecture. Most of the walls that once ringed Ciutadella are gone. This is one of the few pieces left standing, so the line you look out from is the line the town was defended from.
Good to know
- The archaeological collection once shown here has moved to Can Saura, in the historic centre near the cathedral. Go there for the finds.
- Free public toilets stand about 440 m away, and a drinking-water tap about 390 m away.
- A tourist information office of the Consell Insular de Menorca is about 380 m away.
Getting there
The bastion stands on the edge of Ciutadella's centre, above the port, and everything around it is close. The nearest bus stop, Dalt els Penyals, is about 140 m away in a straight line, so the last stretch is a short town walk. Drivers have two options: the Pla de Sant Joan car park about 230 m away, and a paid, surfaced car park about 380 m away. From either one you walk the rest through the streets.
