Butron Castle is a striking example of Neo-Gothic architecture built upon the foundations of an ancient Basque tower. This massive structure is surrounded by a scenic garden featuring exotic tree species and centuries-old oaks. High crenelated towers and narrow embrasures create the image of a classic fairy-tale citadel from knightly romances. Although the interior halls are currently closed to the public, viewing the exterior remains a popular tourist ritual. The fortress is considered one of the most photogenic landmarks in the Basque Country due to its unique aesthetics.
