Castillo de Belmonte

Castillo de Belmonte

About the place

Castillo de Belmonte was built in the mid-15th century by Juan Pacheco, the Marquis of Villena, one of the most powerful nobles of his time. The castle has a hexagonal layout with six semicircular towers, and its walls and interiors have survived in remarkably good condition. Inside, visitors can explore rooms with carved wooden ceilings, Gothic and Mudejar decorative details, and a collection of period weapons and furniture. It also gained fame as a filming location — the castle appeared in El Cid and several international series. From the walls, there are wide views over the plains of La Mancha and the town below.
