Castril

About the place
Castril is a historic white village in Granada province, set at the foot of a massive cliff topped with the ruins of an ancient Arab fortress. The village features narrow steep streets, whitewashed facades, and the famous suspended walkway (Sendero de la Cerrada) running on wooden bridges over a roaring river in a deep canyon beneath the houses. The vertical layout of the village, combined with the towering Peña de Castril cliff, creates a dramatic landscape where turquoise waters, rugged peaks, and the sounds of waterfalls and birds fill the senses. The area is renowned for its glassmaking traditions and the Pena de Castril is protected as a natural monument, making the canyon walkway one of Spain’s most photogenic short trails.
