Cova d'en Xoroi is a natural cave in the cliffs at Cala en Porter, in the municipality of Alaior on Menorca. It sits in the rock face above the Mediterranean, and openings cut through to the outside give onto open water, with Mallorca on the horizon in clear weather. The cave now works as a bar, with live music in the evening and a nightclub session late on Saturday. Its name comes from the legend of Xoroi, a shipwrecked Moor said to have hidden a young woman taken from near Alaior here, until his footprints in the snow gave the cave away.

What makes it special
You sit inside the cliff. The cave is open to the sea on one side, and the gaps in the rock frame nothing but water and, on a clear evening, the low shape of Mallorca on the horizon. There are several places to settle: dark pockets deeper in the rock, seats right at the openings above the drop, and a bar area that would pass for an ordinary bar if it were not roofed by cave. Sunset is what the place is known for, and the light comes in through the openings while the sky changes colour. A live band plays in the evening, and late on Saturday the cave turns into a nightclub.
