El Reducto Beach is an urban beach in Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands. What makes it special

Pale sand runs straight off the promenade, with restaurants facing it from across the road, so a morning on El Reducto is a morning in the middle of Arrecife. The beach is long and wide, and the sand is clean and free of stones.

Out in the bay, a reef holds back the swell and keeps the water shallow. The rocks near the waterline hold crabs.

With the sea closed to swimming since October 2025, El Reducto is a beach for walking the shore and lying in the sun. For a quiet sunbathe in town, it does the job well.

Good to know

  • Swimming: the sea has been closed since October 2025 because of wastewater pollution. Check the signs on the beach before going in.
  • Signs are easy to miss: people still wade in and nobody stops them. Take that as no guide to whether the water is clean.
  • Facilities: free showers and toilets on the beach, and two lifeguard stations.
  • Underfoot: the sand is free of stones, but the seabed is shallow and rocky. Water shoes help once swimming reopens.

Getting there

El Reducto sits on the Arrecife seafront, so the approach is a town street and a promenade. By bus, get off at Intercambiador, about 140 m away in a straight line. By car, the nearer car park is about 90 m away, and a second lies about 380 m off. From any of these you step onto the promenade, and the sand starts at its edge.

Best time to visit

Best: a weekday morning, for a walk along the shore or a quiet spell in the sun.

Avoid: the middle of a summer day, when the open sand has no shade.

A town beach in the island's capital draws locals at weekends, and bare sand gives no cover from the midday sun.
