Guadalest Reservoir

About the place
Guadalest Reservoir is a large artificial lake in the Marina Baixa region, supplying water to Benidorm and nearby towns. The lake is known for its turquoise color, caused by suspended limestone particles reflecting sunlight. Steep limestone ridges of the Sierra de Aitana and Sierra de la Shorta surround the water, creating a dramatic landscape. The water level changes its appearance from a full "fjord" to a canyon with exposed white banks. A scenic walking trail of about 12 km encircles the lake, offering various vantage points.
