Mogan Beach

Golden-sand town beach at the mouth of a ravine, fronting the canals and marina of Puerto de Mogán.

What makes it special

Step off the sand and you are in the village: white houses hung with bougainvillea, canals crossed by small bridges, boats tied up in the marina a short stroll away. The canals between the marina and the fishing harbour are why Puerto de Mogán gets called "Little Venice".

The beach itself is a bay of golden sand with restaurants and bars along the front, including places that serve gluten-free food. Loungers and parasols are for hire, and pedalos with slides go out from the beach. Almost nothing in the village rises above two storeys, so the view back from the water stays low and whitewashed.

The Mogán ravine opens straight onto the beach. At its mouth lies the Cañada de los Gatos archaeological zone, a listed heritage site with an information office about 135 m from the sand.

Good to know

  • Loungers and parasols are for hire on the beach, along with pedalos with slides.
  • Topless sunbathing is accepted here.
  • Free public toilets stand about 170 m away.
  • There is no drinking-water fountain nearby; buy water at the cafés on the front or bring your own.
  • The Friday market draws visitors from all over the island, and the beach and streets are at their busiest then.

Getting there

By car, the GC-1 motorway runs right down to Puerto de Mogán and ends just north of the village. Car parks lie about 75 m and 85 m from the beach in a straight line, so once parked you are practically on the sand.

By bus, several routes serve the village. The Puerto de Mogán stop is about 240 m away, a five-minute walk to the beach through the streets behind the front.

Best time to visit

Best: early in the day, before the loungers fill, or late afternoon when the heat goes out of the sand. Avoid: Fridays if you want a quiet beach, and the middle of the day without a parasol.

The Friday market brings visitors in from across the island and packs the village. The sand has no natural shade, so at midday a hired parasol is the only cover.
