Camí de Cavalls is a waymarked long-distance path along the coast of Menorca, in the Balearic Islands, listed as a monument as well as a trail. Walkers take it a section at a time. Ground and scenery change as the route goes: bare rock on the cliff tops, sand and marshland where it drops to a beach, pine and scrub inland. The stretch between Son Bou and Sant Tomàs runs over cliff-top rock and crosses the marshes behind the beach, and information boards stand near the sand at Son Bou.

What makes it special
Walk it early and the loudest thing is your own feet on the rock. The path holds close to the water for long stretches, then turns inland and changes completely — bare cliff-top rock, pine and scrub, then flat sand and clear water at Son Bou. Between Son Bou and Sant Tomàs it climbs onto the cliffs and the surface turns rocky, and that is where the coast opens out. The waymarking is clear. Out along the cliffs and back along the beach is the obvious way to do this stretch.
Good to know
- The marsh crossing behind Son Bou: the stepping stones can sit under muddy water, and without waders that stretch turns you back.
- Footwear: the cliff section between Son Bou and Sant Tomàs is rocky and uneven underfoot.
- Water and toilets: neither is to be found within 800 m, so carry what you need for the walk.
- Signposting: the route is waymarked, and information boards stand near the beach at Son Bou.
- Parking: of the two car parks close to this end of the path, one is private — read the signs before you walk off.
Getting there
Arrive by car and you leave it about a kilometre away in a straight line; of the two car parks near this end of the path, one is private, so read the signs before walking off. Buses stop in Sant Tomàs, about the same distance out. Either way the last stretch is on foot, past information boards set within a few hundred metres of the sand at Son Bou. From there the coast stays in view, and the waymarking takes over.
Best time to visit
Best: early morning, when the only sound along the cliffs is the sea.
Avoid: the marsh crossing behind Son Bou while the stepping stones are under water — without waders the walk stops there.
An early start is the whole point here: the quiet is what the path gives back. Going out along the cliffs also leaves the sand at Son Bou for the way home.
