The Caminho Real da Encumeada Trail (PR12) is a historic route about 12–12.5 km long that crosses the central mountain range of Madeira, running from Boca da Corrida to the Encumeada Pass. This “Royal Path” was constructed in the 19th century as one of the main roads connecting the island’s south and north coasts. The trail offers wide views of Madeira’s peaks, deep valleys, and cloud-covered microclimates — an ideal setting for an exhilarating mountain walk.
